On June 15th 2016 a training “Implementation of a new European Union data protection law in store chains and shopping centers” took place, an event organized by Retail & e-Commerce Institute. Essential partners of this event were Tide Software and ISecure.
Regulation of the European Union - theory and practice
The European Parliament adopted the European Union Regulation on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data. The timeframe for entry revolutionary changes into force, changes that shall completely abolish the current Polish Act on the Protection of Personal Data, has already started to run.
Store chains and shopping centers performing traditional and online sales are forced to adjust a content of approvals of clients for a personal data processing and also to gain a new permission from all natural persons whose personal data they possess before the entry into force of the Regulation, meaning till May 25th 2018. Otherwise they shall be liable to the penalties up to 20 000 000 EUR or up to 4% of their total annual worldwide turnover of a previous financial year whichever is greater.
Time for action
The aim of the training was to get familiar with the Regulation in a substantial part for store chains and shopping centers and help planning an implementation work of a new law. ISecure company discussed legal matters, basing on its experience as an auditor, counselor and trainer. Tide Software prepared many practical advices in terms of adaptation personal data of clients to the new law with using Bulk Email and SMS, voice messages, interactive forms and questionnaires. Tide Software presented examples of good practices on the management and security of the personal data. Moreover, based on the Tide’s services, there were also presented new requirements facing IT systems which processing personal data and a way that Tide’s services secure the rights of natural persons (the right to be forgotten, the right to monitor the processing of personal data, the right to transfer personal data, the right to object etc.).
As a consequence the attendants learned how to approach the changes from the theoretical, but also the practical standpoint.
Tasty and on the topic once more
The training was held in a form of the breakfast in a Batida cake shop in Warsaw. Delicious coffee, tasty snacks, great networking and the subject of the training made the organizer is planning to repeat the training in the near future.
